Adjustment Techniques

Diversified Technique

The Diversified Technique focuses on correcting musculoskeletal problems by performing a series of adjustments to the spine and other joints. It is often used to treat conditions such as back pain, neck pain, headaches, and other musculoskeletal problems.

During a Diversified adjustment, the chiropractor uses a high-velocity, low-amplitude (HVLA) thrust to the affected joint to help restore its normal range of motion. The HVLA thrust is a quick and precise movement that is applied to the joint in a specific direction, with the goal of reducing pain and improving overall function.

In addition to the HVLA thrust, the Diversified Technique may also involve other manual therapies such as soft tissue work, stretching, and exercises to help improve muscle function and mobility. The specific therapies used will depend on the individual patient's needs and condition.

Thompson Drop Technique

The Thompson Drop Technique uses a specialized table with segmented drop pieces to facilitate adjustments to the spine and other joints. It can be used to adjust any joint in the body, but it is most commonly used to treat problems in the spine. It is often used to treat conditions such as back pain, neck pain, headaches, and other musculoskeletal problems.

During a Thompson Drop adjustment, the chiropractor places the patient on the specialized table with a drop section under the affected joint. The chiropractor then applies a quick and precise thrust to the joint, and the drop piece releases, dropping down a short distance to facilitate the adjustment.

The purpose of the drop piece is to minimize the amount of force needed to adjust the joint while maximizing the effectiveness of the adjustment. The table's segmented drop pieces are designed to reduce the amount of force used during the adjustment, which can make it a more comfortable and less forceful technique for some patients.

Webster Technique

The Webster Technique is used to help pregnant women with sacral subluxation or other misalignments in the pelvis.

During pregnancy, hormonal changes, weight gain, and postural changes can all affect the alignment of the pelvis and sacrum, which can lead to discomfort and even pain. The Webster Technique aims to restore proper alignment and balance to the pelvis and sacrum to relieve these symptoms and potentially improve the outcome of the pregnancy.

It involves a combination of chiropractic adjustments and soft tissue work to help improve the function of the pelvic muscles and joints. The chiropractor will use gentle pressure on specific points on the pelvis to help release any tension or restriction in the muscles and joints.

The goal of the Webster Technique is to help optimize the position of the baby in the womb by creating a more balanced and stable pelvic environment. By restoring proper pelvic alignment, it is believed that the technique may reduce the risk of breech or other malpositioned presentations, which can sometimes lead to a difficult delivery or the need for a caesarean section.

Cox flexion-distraction Technique

The Cox flexion-distraction Technique that is commonly used to treat spinal pain, particularly in the lower back. It involves a gentle, non-forceful approach to adjust the spine and restore its normal range of motion.

During the Cox flexion-distraction technique, the patient lies face down on a specialized table that flexes and distracts the spine. The chiropractor then applies gentle pressure to the affected area, using repetitive pumping movements to mobilize the joint and reduce stiffness and pain.

The Cox flexion-distraction technique is believed to have several benefits, including:

  • Reducing pressure on spinal nerves and discs

  • Promoting the movement of fluids and nutrients within the spinal discs

  • Restoring proper spinal alignment and function

  • Improving posture and range of motion

This technique is often used to treat conditions such as herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, sciatica, and other types of spinal pain. It can also be used as a non-surgical alternative to spinal decompression therapy.

Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT)

The SOT focuses on the relationship between the pelvis and the cranium (skull) and their effect on the nervous system. The SOT technique is often used to treat a wide range of conditions, including back pain, neck pain, headaches, and other musculoskeletal problems. It is also used to treat other health issues, such as digestive problems, hormonal imbalances, and immune system dysfunction.

The SOT approach views the body as an integrated whole and recognizes that imbalances in one area can affect other areas of the body. The technique emphasizes the importance of maintaining proper alignment and balance between the pelvis and the skull to support optimal nervous system function.

During an SOT adjustment, the chiropractor uses a series of gentle, non-forceful techniques to correct imbalances in the pelvis and the cranium. This may include the use of blocks or wedges to support and stabilize the pelvis, as well as manual techniques to correct any restrictions or misalignments in the skull or spine.

The SOT approach also includes the use of other therapeutic modalities, such as cranial therapy, nutrition, and rehabilitation exercises, to support overall health and wellness.

Activator Technique

The Activator Technique that uses a handheld instrument called an activator to apply gentle, low-force adjustments to the spine and other joints in the body. The activator is a small, spring-loaded device that delivers a controlled and precise force to specific points on the spine or other joints. The chiropractor places the activator on the targeted area and delivers a quick and gentle impulse to the joint.

The Activator Technique is designed to be gentle, safe, and effective, and it can be used to treat a variety of conditions, including back pain, neck pain, headaches, and joint pain. The technique is particularly useful for patients who are uncomfortable with traditional manual adjustments or who have conditions that require a more gentle approach.

The Activator Technique is also used to evaluate and treat leg length discrepancy, postural imbalances, and other musculoskeletal problems.

Cranial Facial Release

Cranial Facial Release (CFR) is an advanced endo-nasal “Balloon Assisted” cranial adjusting technique that has been used quite successfully in the treatment of various neurological and structural disorders. Most patients who come in for CFR treatment are often “last resort” patients who have tried everything else first. CFR often succeeds where other forms of conventional treatment have failed. CFR is the best alternative solution and the most sought out modality for sinus and deviated septum surgeries.

The objective of the Cranial Facial Release (CFR) technique is to mobilize the bones in the face and cranium to open up the breathing passageways. This is commonly used on patients experiencing breathing disorders, sinus conditions, or more commonly, snoring problems. This technique is performed by inserting tiny balloons in the nose (specifically the naso pharynx) that are quickly inflated to mobilize the bones of the face and cranium. It feels very similar to the sensation experienced when jumping into a swimming pool and having water shoot up your nose. The whole procedure takes about 2 to 3 seconds and consists of a series of 4 treatments in a 2 week period.

Conditions that respond favorably to CFR treatment:

Breathing Disorders | Sinus Conditions | Snoring | Sleep Apnea | Migraine Headaches | Head Trauma | Post Concussion Syndrome | Chronic Fatigue Syndrome | Trigeminal Neuralgia | Facial Paralysis | Bell’s Palsy | Tinnitus | Vertigo | Seizures | Strokes | Insomnia | TMJ Disorders | Learning Disorders | Attention Deficit Disorder | Neurological Disorders | Emotional Disorders | Hearing Impairments | Vision, Stigmatism | Glaucoma | Anxiety | Autism | Depression | Neurosis | Epilepsy | Down syndrome | Cerebral Palsy | Multiple Sclerosis | Muscular Dystrophy | Parkinson’s Tremors

It is important to note that CFR is not directed at the treatment of any one specific disease or disorder. It’s primary objective is to mobilize the cranial bones, unlock cranial fixations, open the breathing passageways, facilitate cerebral spinal fluid flow, increase vascular flow to and venous drainage from the cranium, and optimize brain function. This often times improves symptoms related to various structural and neurological disorders.

Soft Tissue Therapies

Soft Tissue Therapy is a form of chiropractic care that focuses on the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and other soft tissues in the body. This type of therapy is often used to complement other chiropractic treatments, such as spinal adjustments, to help alleviate pain and improve overall function.

There are several different techniques that can be used in soft tissue therapy, including myofascial release therapy (MRT), Active Release Technique (ART), instrument-assisted techniques such as Graston and Gavilon tools, and trigger point therapy.

MRT involves applying pressure to specific points on the body to release tension in the muscles and soft tissues. ART is a hands-on technique that involves applying pressure to specific areas of the body while the patient moves through a range of motion. Instrument-assisted techniques such as Graston and Gavilon tools use specially designed instruments to help break down scar tissue and adhesions in the soft tissues. Trigger point therapy involves applying pressure to specific areas of muscle to release tightness and pain.

Nutritional Consults

Nutritional Consults are an important part of many chiropractic practices, as they can help patients improve their overall health and wellness by addressing dietary and nutritional imbalances that may be contributing to their symptoms.

During a nutritional consult, we will review your bloodwork and metabolic assessment form to get a comprehensive understanding of your current health status. Then we will use this information to create a unique treatment plan that incorporates new eating lifestyles and supplements as needed.

The treatment plan may involve making changes to your diet, such as reducing your intake of processed foods and increasing your consumption of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. We may also recommend specific supplements to address any nutritional deficiencies that may be present.

By taking a holistic approach to nutrition, we can help you achieve optimal health and wellness, and may even be able to help prevent certain health conditions from developing in the first place. Whether you are looking to lose weight, improve your energy levels, or simply feel better overall, a nutritional consult can be an important step in achieving your health goals.

Rehabilitation Exercises

Rehabilitation Exercises are an important part of many chiropractic practices, as it can help patients recover from injuries or conditions that have impacted their mobility and quality of life. At our practice, we offer a range of rehabilitation techniques, including postural corrective exercises and stretches, fascial stretches, and myofunctional therapy exercises and stretches for TMJ disorders.

Postural corrective exercises and stretches can help patients improve their posture and reduce pain and discomfort associated with poor posture. These exercises and stretches are designed to target specific muscle groups and help patients develop better postural habits over time.

Fascial stretches are another technique used in rehabilitation therapy, designed to improve flexibility and range of motion. This type of stretching targets the fascia, or connective tissue, that surrounds muscles and organs in the body. By releasing tension in the fascia, patients can improve their mobility and reduce pain and discomfort.

Myofunctional therapy exercises and stretches are specifically designed to address issues with the muscles and soft tissues in the mouth and jaw. This type of therapy can be particularly helpful for patients dealing with TMJ disorders or other conditions that impact the function of the jaw muscles.

At our practice, we work with each patient individually to create a customized rehabilitation plan that is tailored to their specific needs and goals. By incorporating exercises and stretches such as these, we can help patients improve their mobility and overall quality of life, reducing pain and discomfort and improving their ability to perform everyday activities.
